Here is a beautiful fashion editorial from a collaboration session during which Natalie (Photographer) thought she coined the term Neo-Tribal. The artist imagined it as a contemporary sub-culture that takes a new perspective on tribal practices. For example, they substituted the traditional camouflage war paint with neon colours that would mix in with an urban environment. The team emphasized the latter through the addition of coloured gels, and shot through greased glass for creative effect on this project.
Turns out that it is an actual term (although a little less exciting than Natalie’s definition): Neo–Tribalism is a sociological concept which postulates that human beings have evolved to live in tribal society, as opposed to mass society; and thus will naturally form social networks constituting new “tribes”.
