The first piece of this gallery was made exclusively for OK OKAY MAG. The illustration is a “DUDE” version of pop culture icon Kim Kardashian.
Pop culture is understandably a big influence of Camillo’s work. He brings his own twist to familiar faces we’ve all seen hundreds of times. All of his characters are standing, waiting and wishing while the world moves around them. In this digital age, most of us literally consume pictures without taking the time to pause and appreciate the artistry.
He draws 365 DUDES a year (One every Day)
Camillo says a good story is the only thing you need in order to become a DUDE. Whether if you’re an actor, musician or simply a housewife. Each dude takes him approximately two hours. The process begins with studying every detail he can find about the dude. He then roughly draws them on paper, scans them and finishes the art pieces digitally (with Affinity Designer).
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Camillo is a self-employed graphic artist/illustrator from Germany and founder of “Dudes by Camillo”. He is the family’s 5th generation designer. His grandfather’s great grandfather, Rudolph Richter, founded his first graphic agency in 1880.
In the beginning, while trying to define his style, he decided to make Pop-Art in a way that hadn’t yet been seen. It all started with a Batman illustration and he went on to draw other “DUDES”. He rapidly took his art to the streets, creating stickers to promote his idea of “standing-waiting-wishing”. He went on to study graphic-design at the Bauhaus-University. Its at that time that the artist began to sell his dudes online. Through his growing success, the dudes made it to several art exhibitions around Europe.
